ABHAY PLAYING A 40 YEAR OLD IAS OFFICER IN "SHANGHAI"

"SHANGHAI", which is directed by Dibakar Banerjee and also stars Emraan Hashmi as the lead protagonist, features Abhay Deol as an IAS officer who is a 40 year old South Indian and finds himself pushed and pulled by various forces while following his call of duty.

"SHANGHAI is a very different story while being contemporary," says Abhay, "The film is based in a small town in India and is about progress. However we have made sure that it is entertaining to the hilt because it is only then can a message be conveyed most effectively. The film shows how most of us aspire to be living a better life, get better roads and infrastructure and have superior quality things around it. But then isn't it all easier said than done?

What Abhay believes has become easier though is his stint in the industry. Post ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, he has finally been recognized as someone who can deliver big commercial success as well.

He smiles, "Yeah, now more people are familiar with me so guess there would be added curiosity about my next film that happens to be SHANGHAI. We have in fact finished the film in 40 days and are now into post production."

With Kalki Koechlin as the leading lady, SHANGHAI is about a common man's endeavor to move from being a part of a third world country to someone who belongs to the first world. Also starring veteran actors Prosenjit Chatterjee and Farooq Sheikh, SHANGHAI releases all over on 26th January 2012.
